Hilltop offers school-age programs at the Hilltop site at 1605 Irving Hill Road on the KU campus as well as at three local elementary schools. Each site has a lead teacher and assistant teacher who offer arts and crafts, dramatic play, music, table games, science and social studies projects, manipulatives, books, puzzles, sports and daily outdoor play. Our goal is to provide safe, high-quality care and activities that are fun and relaxing as well as educational. All enrollments are for five days a week.
School-Age Programs at Hilltop Site
Sunflower PM & Jayhawk Room
Sunflower PM
After K - this program is for kindergartners who are in morning kindergarten programs in the public or private schools. Van transportation is available to Hilltop from 8 elementary schools. Lunch and afternoon snack are provided. Children are picked up earlier on Wednesday due to the Lawrence public school's early dismissal. Lunch and afternoon snack are provided. A full day option is available in the summer. Ratio is one adult to 13 children with a total of 26 children in the room. Fees are listed on the Hilltop Fee Schedule.
Jayhawk Room
This after school program is for 1st-6th graders. Van pick up is offered from 8 schools. Children are picked up earlier on Wednesday due to the Lawrence public school's early dismissal. Afternoon snack is provided. A full-day option is available in the summer. Ratio is 1 adult per 14 children with a total of 28 children in the room. Fees are listed on the Hilltop Fee Schedule.
School-Age Programs at Elementary School Sites
These programs are licensed for kindergarten through sixth grade children. Care will be provided at the elementary school. A daily snack is prepared at Hilltop and transported to the schools. Hilltop does not offer breakfast, but children may participate in the school's breakfast program while in Hilltop's care before school.
Prairie Park Elementary School
After School hours are 2:30 - 5:45, with Wednesday hours from 1:20 - 5:45
Because this school begins very early, Hilltop does not offer a before school program at Prairie Park. Fees at Prairie Park: $8.75 per day plus and additional $4.00 for early dismissal on Wednesdays.
Hillcrest Elementary School
Before School hours are 7:15 - 8:45 a.m.
After School hours are 3:45 - 6:00 p.m., with Wednesday hours from 2:15 - 6:00 p.m.
Sunflower Elementary School
Before School hours are 7:30 - 8:45 a.m.
After School hours are 3:45 - 6:00 p.m., with Wednesday from 2:15 - 6:00 p.m.
Fees at Hillcrest and Sunflower Elementary:
Before school only $4.25 per day;
After school only $8.00 per day;
Before and After School $11.25 per day;
$3.50 additional on Wednesdays due to early dismissal.
Children enrolled during the school year at our elementary school sites have priority for our full day program at our Hilltop site during the summer.

Staffing at Off-Sites
Off-Site teaching teams are comprised of one Lead Teacher and one Assistant Teacher each day. Our Lead Teachers have strong experience working with groups of school-age children and often have or are working toward degrees in an education field. All Assistant Teachers also have appropriate training and experience with school-age children. A few days per week, the programs will be staffed with part-time employees, usually KU students, who lend extra support and assistance. Additionally, these employees are trained to substitute in the absence of one of the regular teachers. All employees of the Off-Site programs are first-aid trained, meet KDHE requirements, receive in-service training and are supervised by the Hilltop Program Director and Executive Director. Families and children also have the opportunity to evaluate the program each semester.
